Title

The oppressed can be oppressors too

Subject

Response to Middlebury community-wide letter from Professor Marissel Hernández-Romero. The author expresses anger at the College's reaction to the letter by Hernández-Romero (the deletion of the letter from the community's email servers). The author then speaks on the trend of female professors of color leaving Middlebury due to sexism, racism, and the institutional lack of support that they endure.

Coverage

"What happened to Dr. Hernández-Romero is not an individual problem, but an institutional one. Our review system, for instance, places our junior colleagues in a relationship of dependency. The mentorship they require is based on trust and respect. If senior colleagues doubt juniors’ lived experiences, if they deny them support and recourse, if they believe they are not “one of us”: how can they overcome?"
