Title

In regard to Riddims history: Give it back

Subject

The author speaks on the history of the dance troupe Riddim World Dance Troupe, which was founded by a group of Jamaican women in 1998 in order to " “provide the Middlebury College Community with an outlet of expression through diverse dance styles, such as hip-hop, jazz, samba, reggae, calypso, merengue, modern, and African dance forms.” Boucher points out that the Riddim of 2020 does not reflect this intent, and instead "emphasizes Eurocentric dance forms". Author highlights the various ways in which Riddim has been "white-washed" and co-opted.
