Title

EAC Proposal Diversifies Course Requirements

Subject

Roman Gaf, the director of the Office for Institutional Diversity proposed modifications to the current graduation requirements to the SGA. The current requirements are divided into three geographical groups: the USA, Western Europe (EUR), and "Other" (OTH). The OTH requirement can be filled by taking a class from anywhere other than Western Europe and the USA (Latin America, Africa, MENA, Asia, etc.). The proposal calls for a broadening of requirements, but also for the requirements themselves to include a wider representation of "minority and majority politics that each of these nations must confront on some level, This last feature includes topics related to gender equality, race, sexual politics, and socio-economic difference". Mind you, the proposed changes increase the geographic categories to 5: North America (NAM), Europe (EUR), Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean (AAL), Comparative (CMP), and Diversity (DIV).
