Title

Faculty Forum: Hoag Suggests Far Eastern Area Study for Curriculum

Subject

Hoag, the Chairman for Contemporary Civilizations, opposes an outside survey that was done of New England colleges that offered courses on the "Far East", on which Middlebury was excluded due to a lack of courses that focus on the "Far East." Hoag highlights the fact that there are many courses that focus on the "Far East" in the departments of HIST, PSCI, ART, RELI, and GEO. He also voices a desire for an Area Study Program so students can focus their studies on a particular area of the world and learn about that area through multiple departments.
