A panel took place that confronted issues of Latinx cultural identity at Middlebury. The panel was made up of current students and alumni who shared their opinions and experiences. Coverage
"While Middlebury students consistently show interest in Latino culture, Yerpes said, they do so on a very superficial level. 'They'll love you for your food and your music,' she said, 'but not when you address real issues.'"
"'We came here to be educated, but we are forced to become educators,' Barrios said, articulating what had become a recurring theme in the discussion."
"Yerpes, who heads Alianza Latinoamericana y Caribena (ALC) on campus, said that a Latino may feel like a 'minority in a minority' because of the diversity that exists within the Latino group, heightening the feeling of being alone."
