Is affirmative action counterproductive?

Title
Is affirmative action counterproductive?
Subject
The author of an op-ed argues against affirmative action, saying that those who utilize it will only increase their own dependency on the government and allows "minorities" to "shift blame for their difficulties from themselves to others". The author then goes on to cite Bill Cosby as an example of how "minorities have had a great influence on American society", and how there is a need for BIPOC to "assume responsibility for their own success" instead of "existing in a system which degrades their attempts at achievement."
