Olin Robison, President of the College issued a statement regarding Middlebury's investment in companies that do business in South Africa. The statement reaffirmed its commitment to the official policy statement of 1981, which defended the College's investments in companies doing business in South Africa that abided by the Sullivan Principles. Robison also stated that the College currently is reviewing five companies that do business in South Africa that have yet to sign onto the Sullivan Principles. The article also mentions how this College policy of investment in particular companies based on their adherence to the Sullivan Principles contradicted the 1981 faculty vote that was strongly in favor of complete divestment.
