Coverage

"Founded in the early '70s, the group was originally called the BSMU-- Black Students for Mutual Understanding-- but the name was shortened to BSU in the middle of the decade. In its formative years, the BSMU became 'too militant' according to Nesbitt. 'The group felt the majority community was not responsive, and it tried to develop a separate identity from the campus. We don't push that anymore.'"
