Title

Eugenics lecture: class struggle distorts science

Subject

Professor Garland Allen of Washington University gave a lecture to the Middlebury chapter of Sigma Xi, titled "Eugenics, Genetics, and Class Struggle." Allen gave an overview of the evolution of different eugenics theories and practices but supposedly worked to prove his argument that "the eugenics movement was used in attempts to disrupt militant labor unions in America and to legitimize Nazi racial superiority theories in Germany" and that "contemporary eugenics theories are attempts by the people in power to justify their inaction when it comes to helping people in the "lower" class.
