The Law of the Land

Dublin Core

Title

The Law of the Land

Subject

Op-ed admonishes petition from the Little Rock school board and opinions of journalist Harry Ashmore of the Arkansas Gazette (winner of the 1957 Pulitzer prize for his journalistic coverage of the school integration crisis in Little Rock, Arkansas) to halt school integration in Little Rock on the grounds of "mob violence if integration were affected this year." The author describes that if the Supreme Court had complied with the petition (which it didn't), doing so would undermine previous Supreme Court decisions and the institution's power.
