<text>Three Middlebury sororities co-author a letter to the editor that is a response to an article written by the Mortar Board regarding racial and religious discrimination within greek life at Middlebury. They answer the four demanded responses that the Mortar Board asked for. Pi Beta Phi says that it is unable to disclose its organization's actual constitution and practices, but issues a statement saying that "Pi Beta has no discriminatory membership clauses" and that organization membership "are based on individual merit and have no restrictions based on race, religion, or national origin." Tri Delta reports that while their organization's ritual has "Christian overtones," it "has not been deemed particularly offensive by non-Christians, for Alpha Iota has Jewish members." Additionally, Tri-Delta reports that they have no discrimination clauses in their constitution or bylaws. That said they admit to the de-facto segregation through the recommendation process and say that they are taking "concrete steps to combat it," but want to do so from within the national chapter, rather than by dissolving their chapters' affiliation. Sigma Kappa writes barely three sentences, saying that they are "dealing" with the issue and must maintain silence and secrecy for the sake of "discreteness."</text>
